January 1975 At the start of 1975, the BBC ran into financial difficulties and had to make major programme cuts. Radio 1 lost its late evening slots, moving some of the rock and progressive music shows to 5 PM and axing others. Stuart Henry, Bob Harris, Alan Black and Paul Burnett left. Radio 2 closed earlier and started later and relayed Radio 1 on weekday afternoons: |

October 1978 During 1978, DLT took over breakfast and the whole daytime schedule was reshuffled. The drivetime show was extended by half an hour to incorporate a number of talk segments. Radio 2's broadcasting hours were also restored to 0500-0200, with the extra shows relayed on Radio 1. Lastly, Sunday night Jazz moved back to Radio 1 for the third and final time. The Saturday afternoon schedule was a temporary fix following the departure of Alan Freeman.

February 1979 Following the movement to a better transmission network in November 1978, Radio 1 introduced a full evening shedule. Originally, the new schedule was due to start the week before the frequency change, but industrial action delayed the extension of broadcasting hours by a few weeks, during which a temporary schedule including the new presenters was run. At the same time, Radio 2 went 24 hours in 1979, with the overnight programmes initially relayed on Radio 1:
